Will opening credit cards hurt my credit score?
This is one of the most common misconceptions about credit cards. Although new credit inquiries can negatively impact your credit score, the effect is generally small and temporary. On the other hand, a new credit card increases your available credit, which makes what you owe as a portion of your total credit seem smaller. This helps your credit! In addition, payments made towards your new credit card help build your payment history, which is the single most important factor in your credit score. In general, most people who open new credit cards and use them responsibly actually see improvements, not impairments, to their credit score.

Why am I being recommended to close certain cards?
